Child Bike Trailer, Baby Bike Seats

icycling with your baby or young child can be a wonderful experience for both of you. The right baby bicycle seat or child bike trailer can make all the difference. You can get both rear and front fitting baby bike seats. Rear fitting seats are by far the most common and offer the widest variety of choice. There are a number of different styles available and each has its own set of features. Front fitting seats are less common and in some cases shops may refuse to sell them if they feel that there is any possible safety implication. You will find the features and pros and cons of the different types of infant bike seats and child bike trailers below:

Rear child bike seat
Most rear bicycle seats feature:
* Reclining back
* Adjustable headrests
* Cushion covers
* Storage compartments or bags
* Tool free fitment
* Grab bars
* Rain Covers

The basic seats generally have a weight limit of 40lbs. Better quality seats tend to be made of more durable ABS type plastics (the type used for car bumpers). This factor and better quality fixings and fixing methods mean that often the better quality seats are capable of carrying a heavier load (up to 48lbs max). Please check that the weight capacity of any seat you buy is suitable for the child you intend to carry.

Front Child Bike Seat
The typical front mounted child bicycle seat features:
* Headrests
* Cushion covers
* Tool free fitment
* Grab bars

A front seat allows more interaction between parent and child and is commonly more stable when occupied but the down side is that the child is placed in a position with no protection from the elements such as wind and rain, or from debris thrown up by vehicles infront. In rear seats, the child is partially shielded by the adult rider.

   Another fun option today is the child bike trailer. A bicycle trailer is a big investment, but it can also ensure that you get your riding in when you have kids. It's a great way to introduce your children to the wonderful world of cycling.

Child Bike Trailers are more stable and affect the handling of the bike much less that bike seats. Trailers with chain stay (rear triangle) hitches affect bike handling less than trailers with seat post hitches. Trailers also have the advantage of being able to carry larger children (1-4 years) and multiple children. (several trailers are rated to 100 lbs.) Kids can be set-in the trailer with toys, books, drink, food and other amusements. The fact that the child is surrounded by so much entertainment and can nap in comfort in their royal coach, they accommodate longer tours. Trailers can provide more weather protection blocking the rain and sun. Sitting low, with a low center of gravity, falls are rare and short. The typical brightly colored fabric used on trailers is very visible to motorists.
